![]() ![]() But I doubt I'll revisit this one any time soon. I think if this stuff had some age on it, you'd really notice everything cranked up to 11, and the whiskey, much like Metallica's newer music, is just not all it's cracked up to be.Ħ/10 for this one - I'm happy I got it and tried it. BUT.there's something holding it back here, which is that lack of age. So - with no age statement on this, is it worth $60? Debatable. 'Re-Mastered' by Pickerell, BLACKENED Whiskey, is a collaboration of bourbons, ryes, and whiskeys. Predominately bourbon, the sweetness of Blackened pairs perfectly with the savory spice offered by the high rye composition of 46. Each of the whiskeys offer unique flavor that play a key role in the final spirit. But the heat and mouthfeel plummet off a cliff. Yes, this still is the original Batch 81 distilled by the late, great Dave Pickerell 'This is the essential gift for any Metallica fan or whiskey aficionado to add to their collection. Blackened is a marriage of the finest bourbons, ryes and whiskeys, hand selected by Dave himself. The result is a magnificently balanced whiskey, robust in flavor and ideal for sipping neat, on the rocks, or in a classic cocktail.' Retailer: Green's Beverages, Greenville, SC. Lots of nice spice and oak, but there's also a pleasant sweetness to balance out the heat. Palate: This is where things get interesting. The longer you let it sit and get oxygen, the more pleasant the nose - but there's still that occasional funky note that creeps in and assaults your senses. And then occasionally there's a giant ethanol heavy whiff of something funky and almost artificial smelling and musty. Crafted by Maker’s Mark veteran (and current WhistlePig distiller) Dave Pickerell, Blackened isn’t a gimmick, though it does stretch some industry boundaries. It swings between all manner of pleasant tones, such as caramel, creme brulee, stewed fruit, vanilla, baking spice, black tea, etc. The second release in the BLACKENED Masters of Whiskey Series, BLACKENED x Wes Henderson Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Wine Port Wine Casks is the collaboration of Master Distillers Rob Dietrich of BLACKENED and Wes Henderson, Co-Founder of Angel’s Envy. Celebrity whiskey reaches its apex with Blackened, a blended American whiskey built and branded by heavy metal legends Metallica. I was honestly surprised with how much I wound up enjoying this stuff.
